Pine – Heart

Heart Pine is reclaimed old-growth Longleaf Pine (Pinus palustris). It comes from trees that grew slowly for centuries in the vast forests of the American South, giving it tight growth rings and a rich amber color you won’t find in plantation pine.
Old-growth Longleaf Pine was once the backbone of building across the South and the East Coast, used for mills, warehouses and homes in the 1800s and early 1900s. Almost all of those forests were cut, so today the wood mostly survives in old beams, joists and floors, which is where ours comes from.
Because it’s reclaimed, boards can come with cracks and nail or screw holes, which many people see as part of its character and history. It’s dense and resinous for a pine, much harder than modern pine, and it finishes to a warm glow that deepens over time. Check reclaimed stock for hidden metal before machining.
Heart Pine is a beautiful, traditional choice for flooring, tabletops, furniture, mantels and other projects where its color and story can shine.
Not listed in the CITES Appendices. Longleaf Pine is assessed as Endangered on the IUCN Red List. Our Heart Pine is reclaimed rather than newly harvested.
