Cedrorana

Cedrorana (Cedrelinga cateniformis), also called Tornillo, is a seldom-seen South American wood with a look all its own, and a relatively inexpensive one. It grows in the Amazon basin, where it’s an important construction timber.
It’s light to golden brown, and its surface is marked by large, open pores with prominent red vessel lines, some of the largest pores of any commercial timber. The result is a distinctive “veiny” look that’s popular with Latin American furniture makers. The sapwood is only slightly lighter and hard to tell apart.
It’s fairly light and works easily with hand and power tools, and it glues and finishes well. If you want a smooth finish, fill the large pores first; otherwise, an oil finish shows off the open texture.
It’s moderately durable but has little resistance to insects, so it’s best kept indoors. Cedrorana suits furniture, turnings, interior joinery and general construction, and it’s a favorite with the turners who know it for its character and easy working.
This species is not listed in the CITES Appendices or on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species.
