Boire

Boire (Detarium spp.), also known as Bodo, is known across Africa as a tough, durable wood with a density similar to Maple. It stays smooth under wear, which makes it particularly well suited to flooring.
The heartwood is medium brown to bronze, with dark streaks and sometimes hints of orange and yellow, while the sapwood is pale brown. The grain is interlocked and the texture fine and even.
Apart from the tear-out that comes with interlocked grain, it works well. Published hardness figures for Boire vary widely between sources, which suggests its density varies from tree to tree, so expect some boards to be noticeably harder than others.
Besides flooring, it’s used for furniture, cabinetry, joinery, gun stocks and veneer.
Not listed in the CITES Appendices, but is classified as “Vulnerable” on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species.
